Getting to Manchester Airport
If you are having to travel a long way or in winter in particular you may wish to consider booking a Manchester Airport Hotel and parking which is often a little more than the cost of off airport parking.
By Coach
SKYLINE bus services provided by Stagecoach, Trent and Arriva,
run services direct to and from the airport’s Station,
into Manchester, Altrincham and Stockport.
Buses operate nearly every 10 minutes between the airport and
the city centre from as early as 3.00 am in some instances. Bank
holidays and week- end services are also available.
If you are catching early or late flights it is always sensible
to check your connection times.
By Car
Examine your tickets and ensure you have the correct departure
and check in times. All times are written in a 24- hour clock
format. On occasions, for example 06.30 has been taken for 6.30
in the evening. Result one unhappy family.
Also nearly all airlines have a close off time of usually 30
to 40 minutes before departure on long to mid haul flights. Once
this deadline is passed late arrivals will not be admitted. Internal
flights and to Dublin and Jersey etc have much shorter close
off times.
Always add on at least an hour for your journey to overcome any
vehicle mishap and if you will be traveling through rush hour,
add at least another hour. Traditionally Monday and Friday traffic
is also heavier with long stay commuters returning or coming
from home for the weekend.
Whichever way you are coming to Manchester airport between 07.00
and 09.30 and 16.00 to 18.30 traffic is very slow moving and
it only takes a minor accident on M60, M6 or M56 for these roads
to become gridlock. Please give yourself as much time as you
possibly can.
Please ensure you have your directions with you and we would
also recommend that you use AA or RAC route planners.
By Train
The on airport train station offers direct rail services by
Arriva and First Western.
Services run to over 100 destinations in the UK including
many tourist destinations such as the Lake District and York.
There
are direct, night service trains to and from Sheffield, Leeds,
Huddersfield, Manchester, Bolton, Preston and Blackpool. Many
other direct services are hourly from Monday to Saturday and
most run a Sunday service.
During the day there are six trains an hour into the city centre
and up to four through the night. Trains run to Manchester
Piccadilly rail station and take approximately 15 - 20 minutes,
many continue
onto Oxford Road, Deansgate and Salford Central stations. From
Manchester Piccadilly you can connect onto rail services countrywide.
From Manchester Airport, key transfer rail stations are Crewe
